Into the woods

So this is my papercut "Into the Woods" it is about one of my favourite places which are the woods on the South Downs where I live.

I started looking into the names of trees in Britain to put into the work, which in turn sent me on a long hunt for a definitive list of indigenous trees, which proved a lot more complicated than I thought!

In the end I had to make a choice, which you may or may not agree with, and I think some extra names slipped in just because I liked them!

This piece has won first prize in the Senior Category of the Fusion and Kent College Art Competition.

Autumn

Well it's been a long time since I last posted and now Autumn is really upon us.

I really like this partial shadow of a papercut I have been working on over the summer, soon to be revealed in its entirety.

It is about the Sussex Downs and indigenous trees of Britain... Have I got your attention?

Smiths Row

Another lovely camping weekend, this time in Norfolk, but first we delivered some papercuts to a gallery in Bury St Edmunds called Smiths Row- www.smithsrow.org/, it is full of lovely things, I could of stayed for ages browsing, but hot and sticky family were waiting in the car....

Green Tree Gallery

Oops... I seem to have inadvertently deleted the first draft of this post, it's all very confusing, however to cut a long story short- The Yvonne Arnaud Art Exhibition is up and running in Guildford and yesterday I delivered some papercuts to the Green Tree Gallery, Borde Hill Gardens, Haywards Heath RH16 1XP for an exhibition titled 'Figuratively Speaking'. It is running from the 13th July to the 17th August .

As well as trying to get out into the garden now that the weather has made a turn for the better I am putting work together to take part in an exhibition organised by Guildford Arts at The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford.

It is running from Wed 10 to Thurs 25 July, Mon to Sat 10-7.30,
 15,16,22,25 July 10 - 6.

Last weekend of Brighton Festival

This is the last weekend to come and see all the art work at 31 Sandgate Road, including this new papercut- ' the sky is filled with stars'.

Alphaboat

The alphaboat will be moored at 31 Sandgate Road for the next two weekends, it starts with A for Albatross, B for Bar ... and yes it is a bit obscure... Hope you enjoy figuring it out!

Brighton Festival

The Brighton Festival is nearly half way through, where did that go?

A visit to the vet

I was passing down the high street one evening and saw a view into the vets surgery which was the inspiration for this new papercut I am working on.  I have to say I have never seen a cow at my surgery!

Portico Gallery, Riverhead

If you're passing near to Sevenoaks over the next few months I have some new work in an exhibition at the Portico Gallery, 25 London Road, Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 2BU.

It's running from February 23rd to 6th August, and includes work by Graham Carter, Olga van Dijke, Rod McIntosh, Matt Forester, David Bennett and Karen Jones.

I'm very excited to be exhibiting alongside such great talent.

Shipping Forecast

I have been working on the design of this papercut for some time. I've always loved the names associated with the Shipping Forecast, and when I found out that sea area Finisterre (my favourite name) was changed in 2002 to FitzRoy, I thought that this papercut should be called 'Homage to Finisterre'.
